Although electric power generation in India on a commercial basis is almost a century old, substantial power development efforts began only after independence. At the launch of the First Five-Year plan in 1951, power generation was recognized as a major input for the country's economic development and was accorded high priority.
Uttranchal state is having sufficient hydro potential therefore to avail the maximum opportunities and advantages from these small, medium and large Hydro Electric Projects, recently Govt. of Uttranchal has allocated following large and Small Hydro Electric Projects of Phase-I to different executing agencies. Since many projects are coming in the same valley in Phase-I and number of projects are being envisaged in Phase-II as well, right of way problem to constrains evacuation transmission system shall required expertise skill and study of evolving a composite transmission system for these projects.
For speedy timely evacuation of power from these large Hydro Electric Projects, Govt. of Uttaranchal has decided to create an independent "Power Transmission Corporation of Uttaranchal Ltd.", which has already started functioning w.e.f. 01.06.2004.A major decision is also taken by Govt. of Uttaranchal to take up the integrated power evacuation system to various pooling points in and near the boundaries of Uttaranchal on its own through "Power Transmission Corporation of Uttaranchal Ltd.".
The Corporate office of the Company is situated at 7B Vasant Vihar Enclave, Street No. 1 Dehradun. The Company is managed by the Board of Director. The Board of Directors meets frequently at least once in every quarter. The day to day management of the Company is looked after by the Managing Director and other officers of the Company.
PTCUL is the State Power Transmission Utility (STU) responsible for building, operating and maintaining Transmission Substations and Lines at Extra High Voltages (EHV) of 132 KV, 220 KV, 400 KV & above. It was carved out of UPCL in June 2004 as a part of Power Sector Reforms process. PTCUL is also responsible for Load Despatch and Energy Management functions in the State through Load Despatch Centres (LDCs).As Corporate entity, PTCUL aims to implement best practices of Project Implementation and Operations & Maintenance Management to ensure efficiency, reliability and commercial viability of Power Transmission System in the State. It endeavours to be among the best Transmission Utilities in the Country in these parameters within three years. |
